Meet the young talented and intelligent star, Mbongko Gisele Yaa, student at the University of bamenda, faculty of science. Not only able to put together sientific potions, she extends the magic in her fingers and her versatility in the making of beats, handbags, chains and purses of various sizes and designs. This beauty has put beats back on the market. She is a young "Boss" who for some months now has been able to put in place her own "company" bearing the name GILYA. Getting into the buisiness hasn't been an easy ordeal due to competition from both the white man jewelry and other beat makers. TIA-NA's Journal caught up with her a couple days back and she shared with us what she has been up to as well as what is still cooking given that her good looks is not her only selling point.
Miss Mbongko: Good morning and welcome to my humble dwelling
TJ: My pleasure. So can you tell us about you?
Miss Mbongko: My name is Mbonko Gisele Yaa. I am a level 4 student in medical science, an entrepreneur and a crazy lover of arts. Born and raised in Bamenda, city of wisdom, I am the 1st emerging from a family of four. Grown up in a christian background and struggling not to be a social misfit, music, designing, fashion and arts are a few of my hobbies i term "inborn".
TJ: Now we are aware of your new baby "GILYA BEATSMAKING" which you just began in the city of bamenda and which has been a success so far especially in the North West region. What inspired you to start up this and where is the name GILYA BEATSMAKING from?
Miss Mbongko: As I earlier mentioned, fashion is one of those things I dwell in. While at school, i realised that i did nothing with my spare time aside going out on dates with friends and noise making all along but as a science student which I still am, noise making and dates is not of our religion, so i decided to do something else, something new and striking, with a piece of originality and "africanism" along with the help of my hands. Then was born the idea of BEATSMAKING. As per the name, it came from my own name GISELE YAA (GILYA). originality is what i crave for, my name, the name of my brand, we make up one and we are indivisible. It is a piece of me, but with the rate at which it is going viral, i see it already INTERNATIONAL.
TJ: how did you know you were doing the right thing?
Miss Mbongko: actually, i am not yet convinced it is the right thing(she laughs). Nevertheless, all i do is believe in myself. In as much as im not yet convinced, I know that my beats have an impact on people in their day to day lives. The first people i attracted were my mother and her friends, they were completely amazed and urged me to keep up, not only by words of mouth but by buying a piece or a set of it for themselves each time they come around.
TJ:What word will you use to describe your 'company'?
Miss Mbongko: Blessed is the word(two hours of today,3500 of tommorow)
TJ: how do you manage the fashion world and Education?
Miss Mbongko: Fashion and Education interwooven make up GILYA. fashion and EDUCATION are who i am. They both put together are handled simultaneously. It hasnt been that hard though given that the free periods are what i use to build up my future "empire".
I WEAR WHAT I MAKE. ORIGINALITY IS WHAT I REPRESENT |
TJ: who are(is) your Inspiration?
Miss Mbongko: (she smiles) Surprising enough,my inspiration, my role model, my push-foward, the reason why i want to succeed is my mother. Though not a jewelry or beats fan, she is a fan or originality and creativity. I want to be what she is. The strong, decisive, believing and hardworking woman/wife that she is. she urges us to work harder always and never to relent our efforts. she is a life teacher, a mother, a friend an entrepreuneur and a wife. as i always say, this woman ROCKS. When i look at her, i see my identity and i see the future me. She is my inspiration and my stepping stone.
TJ: What word do you have for the young "hustlers" out there?
Miss Mbongko: BELIEVE, when you believe, you can achieve.
3500 a set, depending of size and quality
